Lincoln Darling, Principal of Darling Realty, has been a fixture in the commercial real estate industry in Dunedin for over a century. Recently, Lincoln faced a significant challenge when an earthquake in 2011 left one of his buildings on Rattray Street with irreparable damage. “We ended up pulling it down completely,” he recalls. It wasn’t the easiest build—every day they were saying, ‘What about this? What about this?’ So we’ve got the finished product that we wanted.”

According to Lincoln, the quality of workmanship exceeded expectations: “If there’s been a slight imperfection, the Project Manager just went and fixed it. He’d be out there doing a wee bit of touch-up paint. They took real ownership of it, and they’re as proud as we are.”

As plans for the building evolved, Cook Brothers adapted seamlessly to changing requirements, shifting from long-term, high-end residential to luxury Airbnb accommodations. The results speak for themselves: “It’s only gone live in the last two weeks, and it’s fully booked now.”

Lincoln’s relationship with Cook Brothers spans multiple projects, including one of our first buildings on Ward Street and a recently completed gym in Mosgiel. He describes the team as “very, very easy to deal with, a lot of finesse, and as far as attention to detail—fluid glass on the balcony was changed four times until it was perfect, because Cook Brothers didn’t accept anything less.”
